I got interviewed by my blogger crush @carissarossi at the Karmaloop TV Studios last week. Here’s the interview
We had Wiz Khalifa and Taylor Gang DJ Bonics come through Karmaloop on Wednesday, where he chopped it up with us about his upcoming tour with Snoop Dogg, how he linked up with Wiz, and more:
You started out in the clubs and then moved on to become a radio DJ – but did you ever plan to become a traveling DJ?
I started out as a club DJ and then went into radio realm by accident. The first radio station that hired me, hired me as a mixer but then I got fired. Ironically they brought me back as an on-air host. The basis of everything I do is mixing. I always knew I wanted to travel, I didn’t know with who or how, but I knew it was going to be something great!
What would you consider your first big break in the industry?
My first big break honestly in the industry was getting into college radio. No matter how big or how small, all of that is a part of the story. When I applied my first semester at the University of Pittsburgh, they interviewed me and then I got call later that week and they told me I wasn’t qualified. I went back the next year and basically ran the radio station after that – it was a good little come back!
How did you link up with Wiz Khalifa?
I was the best at what I did in Pittsburgh and he was the best at what he did in Pittsburgh, so it was a match made in heaven. I have seen Wiz work since he was 15 years-old because I was friends with E. Dan who ran ID Labs. I booked Wiz at a show in 2004 at Pitt and he really worked at his craft since then. The timing was incredible when it was time.
